According to a report by the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), Morocco and Afghanistan are the top producers of cannabis or cannabis.
The report, which covered the year 2013 that the Maghreb region has seen the largest amount of cannabis seized in Africa.
He added that the data of the World Customs Organization indicates that 65% of the quantities seized by the customs authorities globally, originated in Morocco.
The report pointed out that the investigations revealed that Morocco was considered as the source of cannabis by 17 countries, 11 of them in Western and Central Europe, while Afghanistan was registered as a source of cultivation of this material by the neighboring countries and the countries of the Middle East and even Europe.
For its part, the Moroccan government confirmed its commitment to its international obligations in combating the phenomenon of cultivation and export of cannabis, saying that the seizure and confiscation by the authorities of this substance exceeded five hundred tons during the past two years.
Moroccan Minister of Communication and government spokesman Mustapha al-Khaliji said the government continues to face the problem of development programs.
According to figures released by the Moroccan Interior Ministry, about 90,000 families, equivalent to seven hundred thousand Moroccans, live on the proceeds of cannabis, especially in northern Morocco, which is called the "countryside".
In a parallel context, the US Drug Enforcement Agency confirmed that cannabis, recently codified in two of the 50 US states, should be classified as the biggest threat to human health, just like heroin and ecstasy pills
