Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was born on February 26, 1954, in Istanbul, but his origins are from the northern Turkish city of Reza on the Black Sea.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan returned to political life with the establishment of the Welfare Party in 1983. He became head of the party in the Beyoglu branch in Istanbul in 1984, then head of the party in Istanbul and a member of the administrative committee of the central decisions of the Welfare Party in 1985. On December 12, 1997, Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sentenced to prison for a piece of poetry he sang while delivering a speech to the masses in Sirte and a dismissal from the mayor of Istanbul, the largest city, although the poetry he read was contained in a book by a government institution, Turkey's Ministry of National Education recommended teachers.

After Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was released from prison for four months, he decided with his friends to establish the Justice and Development Party (AKP) on August 14, 2001, as a result of public insistence and democratic developments in the country. In the first year of the party's founding, it became a political movement that gained wide popular support. On the confidence of the people and their attachment to this new party, they managed to win the legislative elections in 2002 by winning two-thirds of the seats in parliament, which made them eligible to form a government on their own.

But Erdogan was unable to run in the legislative elections held on November 3, 2002 because of a court ruling. However, after the removal of the electoral barrier by means of legal amendments, he managed to run from the city of Sirte, where the elections were re-elected on March 9, 2003. Erdogan won 85% of the city's votes, For the twenty-second electoral cycle.

On 15 March 2003, Recep Tayyip Erdogan assumed the post of prime minister and embarked on vital and important reform packages to realize his dream of sustainable development for Turkey. He has made great strides in democratization, transparency and the fight against corruption. In addition to his successful initiatives to join the European Union, which was a historic turning point for the country, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took important steps in finding a lasting solution to the Cyprus issue and establishing positive relations with the various countries of the world thanks to his wise foreign policy, visits and intensive contacts. The established stability in the country has moved internal dynamics to make Turkey one of the central Powers of the world to the extent that Turkey's political power and commercial size are a reality that can be felt not only at the regional level, but also at the international level.

As chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Recep Tayyip Erdoğan won a major victory in the July 22, 2007 parliamentary elections with 46.6% of the vote. He formed the 60th government of the Turkish Republic and won the confidence of Turkish public opinion.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed his victory by increasing the votes of his party to 49.8% in the elections of 12 June 2011 and managed to form the sixty-first government.

On Sunday, 10 August 2014, the Turkish people elected Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as President of the Republic of Turkey; he became the twelfth president in the history of Turkey.

Following the adoption of the constitutional amendment in the referendum of April 16, 2017 and paving the way for the possibility of the president being a political party, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was re-elected at the Third Extraordinary Congress held on 21 May 2017 as chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), one of its founders.

He was elected President of the Republic again by 52.59% of the votes in the presidential elections held on Sunday, 24 June 2018.

President Erdogan was sworn in on July 9 to take up his new post on the same day as the first president of the republic under the presidential government system that came into force following the adoption of constitutional amendments on April 16, 2017.
