Why did "Night Cockroaches" attack the Makki Mosque?
Large numbers of the "cockroach of night" insect attacked various areas of the holy Haram al-Sharif for reasons of lack of cleanliness and accumulation of microbes, especially as they multiplied in the areas of sewage and open water drains around the yards of the campus and water cycles surrounding the area of Qashashia, Holy.

The night owl is a small insect belonging to the family of cockroaches. It is brown in color and resembles the locust in its outer form. It has long legs, front wings and sensor horns. They live in dark, warm places and among weeds, and they appear at night in abundance. Called the names of them: "night crows or black grasshoppers or crocodiles."
Many types can be up to 1200 species, vary in size, thickness of wings and shape of their heads. It is a harmless insect as much as it is just annoying. The insect is said to sound annoying during the night to rub its wide wings, some of which may be used to attract females, and people are often disturbed by the sound.
Activists expressed concern about the spread of this insect, considering that it may be a divine warning that requires forgiveness and repentance. "Even if it is the season of its appearance now, its thick appearance in Mecca is not normal, it may be a warning from Allah, and we should be more forgiving and repentant," wrote one of them.
While the other attributed the emergence of this insect in the sanctuary to the lack of cleanliness and the spread of the "smell of sewage" in a terrible place. She said, "I swear by God I worship and I am arrogant, and cleanliness and attention to the Haram al-Makki, people."
Apart from the hypotheses that view the phenomenon as "anger from God" and "atonement for sins," one of the worshipers saw it as merely "a natural consequence of the severe drought after the last short rainy season and nothing to do with the sins of the people of Mecca."
"The spread of this insect will last from one to two weeks, and the most attractive for gathering around it are white external illuminations," he said.
The Secretariat of the Holy Capital said in a statement on Monday: "A reference to the video clips in the social media, which show the spread of insects in the squares surrounding the Holy Mosque of Mecca, the Secretariat of the Holy City to clarify that this insect called black grasshoppers (Gaddad) So-called night caterpillars of migratory insects. "

She added that "all specialized teams were directed to combat the eradication of these insects with (22) teams consisting of (138) individuals and (111) combat devices, and has been focusing on the breeding sites and breeding of sewage inspection rooms and open water drains around the yards Haram al-Sharif and the surrounding water courses in the area of Al-Qashashiya.
